Who Is Derrick Johnson Jr?
Derrick Johnson Jr is a youth motivational speaker, community outreach member, and an expressive writing facilitator. Derrick values dedication, service to others and leading a purpose driven life. As a former Hip Hop recording artist and a current 6 year Police Officer, Derrick brings unique perspectives gained from his experience as an adolescent as well as his professional career as a public servant, to your school, inspiring students to unleash their untapped potential and ability to overachieve. Using his real life experiences, Derrick sheds light on how the invaluable gift that each student brings to the world, can impact and change the world.
Derrick learned the value of discipline and hard work at an early age growing up in Baltimore, city with three siblings in a single-parent home. His determination to avoid a life of poverty and crime inspired him to become a successful business owner, and to be awarded Officer of the Year with The Maryland Transit Police Department in 2018. Derrick’s career has been a model of service recognized by the community and within his agency. Derrick knows that excellence is a journey, not simply a destination. This perspective inspired him to teach, develop, inspire, and mentor hundreds of at-risk youth at Sheppard Pratt Mental Healthcare Facility as a residential counselor. He brings this same dedication and passion to his work with educational leaders as they strive to empower their students and achieve greater success in and out of the classroom.
